If the length of the major axis of an ellipse is three times the length of its minor axis .ie.

a = 3b

 

Eccentricity = underroot[(a2 - b2)/a2]

                      = underroot[(8b2/9b2)]

                      = underroot[(8/9)]

                      = 2root2/3
